You might be thinking, I’m not the type of person that could hire an interior designer. A lot of times people hear interior designer and they immediately think it’s too much money or they’re only for big renovation projects. Well today I’m going to show you why that’s untrue and how to know if you should hire one. Here are 7 signs you need to hire an interior designer.
Your Home Feels Chaotic
Let me paint a picture, you walk in from a long day at work. You drop your bag on the floor next to all the kids school bags. Shoes are strewn about and you immediately notice the dingy paint color of your foyer that you said you were going to repaint when you bought the house. Your stress level goes up as you think to yourself, why does my house always feel so chaotic.
Your home should feel like a sanctuary. Whether you need organizational solutions, paint color suggestions or personal touches to help you relax at the end of the day. An interior designer can help with all of those things! Something as simple as space planning and organizational solutions can bring the calm back into your home.
NOthing in your house feels cohesive
I hear this from clients all the time. They start buying things for their home because they want to add personal touches but nothing seems to work together. Interior designers look at the big picture. Our time is spent planning for the end goal and making sure all the pieces we select for you work together.
But don’t think that means everything has to be brand new. More often than not my clients keep a handful of existing pieces to cut down on cost and I work to help update the space mixing existing pieces with new.
Your home doesn’t reflect your family
I am a firm believer that my job is to create a home that is a reflection of you, not a magazine esc home. Unless of course that’s what you want. My point is, it is very easy to just purchase decor that looks cool or pretty but the way to create a welcoming home is to add personal pieces that reflect you and your family.
As interior designers we’re creative thinkers and are looking for little ways to add personal touches. It’s not always the obvious ways either, like adding family photos. If your family loves hiking or music or the beach I always take that into account and add little nods to who you are because it adds life and personality to your home.
you’re spending money without a plan
If you are doing this stop right now. This is a counterpart to reason number two above. A lot of my clients start off this way before they call me. They know their home needs help so they start buying decor and furniture but nothing works together. That’s because they don’t have a plan.
An interior designer will create a plan often in the form of a moodboard so you can see everything laid out. This will not only save you a ton of time but will also save you money!
You’re EMBARRASSED to have people over
If you’re embarrassed by how your home looks and it’s keeping you from entertaining then you need help. Sometimes all it takes is furniture rearrangement and a few new decorative items to give your home a glow up.
But when you’re living with it for a long time you have a hard time seeing how simple changes can make a big difference. It’s the overwhelm shut down scenario. Your home feels overwhelming so you shut down. An interior designer can help you see your home through a new lens.
You don’t know how to get started
Do you have a pinterest board for your home or maybe five? You’re inspired and you think you know what you want but have no idea how to get started? Time to call a designer. Interior designers are experienced at conception and implementation of designs. So when someone comes to us with inspirational photos or a vision we are so excited to help them make the vision come to life!
You’re on a budget
I know what you’re thinking, if I’m on a budget then how could I pay a designer. It’s true, if you’re on a very tiny thrift shop budget you might not be able to afford a designer. However, a lot of designers like myself, offer premade mood boards for a fraction of the cost of our full service.
This is a great way to get a general plan of color palette and design aesthetic without breaking the bank. Not only that, but like we talked about before, a designer can save you money in the long run. When you have a plan you won’t spend on things you don’t need, there’s nothing worse than spending $50 on a gallon of paint that ends up looking terrible.
Additionally, interior designers know the best ways to spend money on decorative items. We can help you make the best choices with the money that you have in order to make the biggest impact.
