If you are reading this, my guess is you found yourself here because you are fed up with your skin. Particularly your cystic acne. I want you to know you are right where you need to be, I was in your shoes a few years ago. For as long as I could remember I hated my skin. It made me so insecure and I would dream of going out without covering all my breakouts.
I would search online looking for anything to help. I tried everything from an aspirin mask (don’t try that btw) to apple cider vinegar. The truth is there was (and is) no quick fix. But there is hope, as I sit here I can tell you I haven’t had a cystic breakout in years and I go without makeup most days. I’m going to share with you my top tips for clearing cystic acne for good.
Acne Skincare Routine
what to eat for clear skin
1// What you put in your body makes a HUGE difference in how your skin looks. I cut out most processed foods and dairy, made healthy replacements for things like sugar, and started eating a clean healthy diet. If you check out the ROOTS section of the blog you can see some of my favorite recipes. I would say this is the biggest change I made that helped clear my skin. That being said, I know a lot of my acne was hormone related. Guess how we balance our hormones?? With a healthy diet and sometimes supplements. If you think you might have a hormone imbalance I highly recommend seeing a specialist and getting some bloodwork to rule it out.
Chemical free skincare
2// Switch to chemical free skincare products, actually I switched to chemical free everything for the most part (which will also help with hormone balancing btw). This was a life changer. Besides not wanting to put chemicals on my already sensitive skin, I knew enough to know everything you put on your skin also goes into your body. I felt like my body was reacting to everything I was putting on it. Now I only use chemical free skincare and savvy minerals natural makeup from Young Living.
replace your moisturizer
3// I switched from moisturizer to jojoba oil. This helped balance my skin in ways I couldn’t have imagined. While my skin was acne prone it was also very dry at times. When I switched to jojoba oil it evened out my skin and now it’s soft and moisturized all the time. The moisturizers were way too thick and I felt like they were actually taking the moisture away from my skin. Don’t worry, your face will be greasy for a few minutes after you put the oil on but your skin will absorb it and you won’t have any greasy residue. It is by far the best “moisturizer” I have ever used.
water and clear skin
4// I drink a lot of filtered water (we use a Berkey Filter and I can’t recommend it enough!). I try to drink half my body weight in oz every day, which is a lot harder than it sounds. But it’s so good for your skin and body, it flushes toxins and keeps your skin supple.
Stress management for clear skin
5// I found healthy ways to manage stress. Hormones from stress can wreak havoc on the body. Not to mention cause acne flare ups. To help manage stress I take Ashwaganda (a superfood adaptogen) every night, I practice yoga and workout daily. As a mom of three it is so important that I find time to move my body during the day and keep the stress at bay.
