Drinking water is one of the best things you can do for your health. It might be one of the easiest things too, so why is it so hard for us to drink more water?
benefits of drinking more water
There are so many benefits to drinking water, some of which may not have occurred to you. Drinking water can improve energy levels, especially in someone that is chronically dehydrated. Not only that but drinking water can improve brain function, memory and mood! Drinking water can help you have clear dewy skin. Those three things alone are enough to take on the gallon a day water challenge!
Drink water to remove toxins
Drinking water flushes our system, so in turn it is very important in ridding our body of daily toxins. We encounter so many toxins in our day-to-day lives, drinking water is one way we can stay on top of flushing those out of our system. ***If you feel you are suffering from a toxin overload please talk to your doctor.
Drink water to lose weight
Can you lose weight by drinking more water? It is absolutely possible! If you’re someone that has a weight loss goal and you’ve hit a plateau I say add more water and see what happens. Additionally, as mentioned above, drinking more water helps to detox the body. Toxins in the body may make it harder for you to lose weight. Drinking more water can help flush the toxins which in turn may help with weight loss and weight management.
How much water should you drink in a day
If you’re wondering how much water you need in a day, I’ve got you covered! Here’s a very simple formula to calculate the amount of water you need.
Your Body Weight / 2 = The Amount You Need in oz of Water a Day
For example: 150 lb / 2 = 75 oz per day
In the scenario above a 150lb person needs at least 75oz of water per day. That does not include any additional water they need to drink if they workout or sweat on a hot day. I typically recommend 8-16 additional ounces of water when you workout or sweat.

How to drink more water
These tips will help you drink more water so you can see for yourself how much of a difference drinking water can make on your health.
- Add essential oils, lemon, or flavors like these tablets to make drinking water more enjoyable
- Get a cup that you want to drink out of like this stainless tumbler. I drink 5-8 of these a day.
- Track how much water you’re drinking. Whether on your fridge or in the notes section of your phone. This will help you stay on track and if your a “list crosser offer” like me, you’ll love hitting those water drinking goals every day.
- Set reminders on your phone. I get it, sometimes we get busy and forget to drink water. Set alarms on your phone throughout the day to remind you to keep up with your water drinking goals.
Is water quality important?
Yes! The quality of your water is very important, especially when you consider everything I mentioned above about toxins. Our family filters our drinking water through a Big Berkey Water Filter. We purchased it over 3 years ago and at the time my husband was not.too.happy about it. But now we don’t know what we did before we had it. It filters out pretty much anything from your drinking water so you don’t have to worry.
